Join DLSU & ABS-CBN Bayan Mo iPatrol Mo’s election forum on February 11, 3:00 -7:00PM at the Multipurpose Room, 5th floor Henry Sy Sr. Hall

The forum aims to provide a venue for our students to be engaged in discussions related to the upcoming midterm national and local elections of May 13, 2013. The forum will discuss topics that include voter’s responsibilities, voter’s rights, election security, candidate assessment, election issues and the role of the youth. There will also be a demonstration of the PCOS machine.

Re: Classes on February 8

In order for the Lasallian community to participate in the Mission Statement University Week culminating activities on February 8, there will be no classes in the undergraduate and graduate levels in the Manila, Makati, and Ortigas campuses from 1:30 p.m. onwards. However, students are encouraged to take part in the celebrations.

Academic and non-academic departments and units will continue their normal operations. Office personnel who want to participate in the activities should ask for the permission of their respective department/unit heads.

Visit the DLSU Innovation and Technology fair at the new DLSU Henry Sy, Sr. Hall.

The event will showcase the new and innovative ideas and solutions of the students and faculty members from the different DLSU colleges. More than fifty projects from the Gokongwei College of Engineering, College of Science, College of Computer Studies, Ramon V. Del Rosario College of Business, and the College of Education will be featured, including several projects that have won national and international awards.

Black Swan, a film by Darren Aronofsky, is the video pick of the week at the University Library. The movie is about ballerina Nina Sayer who lands the role of the Swan Queen in a production of the Tchaikovsky classic. Normally, this should have been a happy occasion but with a mother who pushes her all the time, she strives to get picked in lead roles only to see roles go to lesser talents. Years of failure to get that big break, including an overwhelming sense of paranoia make her a tad psychotic, easily given to hallucinations and such. When she does get the role, she finds herself even more insecure than before. The director Thomas Leroy doesn’t help matters by constantly riling her for being too frigid instead of losing herself in the character.

Abstract
Computer-Mediated Communication (CMC) is here taken to mean any communicative interaction that happens through the use of two or more computers connected by some kind of web. The texts used in CMC range from written texts, images, audio and video, which are exchanged between persons by way of computer networks. This talk will focus on CMC as an emerging type of discourse, that is, a discourse that is multi and inter-disciplinary as it is discourse dependent on technology.
